In a milestone for the Australian mining industry, ATF Mining Electrics recently completed the electrical systems for the first 55 tonne Petitto Mule Longwall Shield Retrievers imported into the country.
ATF custom designed and installed the entire electrical package for the first three Mules, including a 160kW electric motor, cable reel c/w 300m of trailing cable, flameproof control boxes, headlights and methane system. Designed to operate in hazardous underground environments, the electrical system consists of ATF and Ampcontrol flameproof (Exd) and intrinsically safe (Exi) products which are all IEC Ex Certified.
The Mules have been purchased by BIS Industrial Logistics from Petitto Machinery as an addition to their extensive hire fleet and will be used during Longwall Shield relocations and extraction in NSW and QLD mines and are capable of moving roof supports of up to fifty five tonnes.
With Longwall mining equipment ever increasing in size and weight, these 55 tonne mules have the capacity to haul the very largest supports in use.
