ATF Mining Electrics was founded in 1980 by brothers Albert Weeks and Trevor Mansfield, who originally named the company AT Flameproof.
In 1991, the small manufacturing company located at Boolaroo NSW, was bought by MM Cables, who at the time were the major supplier of longwall electrics in the Australian market.
The company continued to trade as AT Flameproof under the control of MM Cables between 1991 and 1997 at the Boolaroo site, before relocating to a larger facility at Munibung Road, Cardiff NSW.
Soon after the relocation to Cardiff, a transformer business was purchased and the name was again changed to form MM ATF. Shortly after the rename, MM Cables closed its operation in Hamilton NSW and merged the business with MM ATF at Cardiff.
During the downturn in the late 1990’s, Ampcontrol bought the MM ATF business to help progress their move into the longwall electrics market and as a result changed its name from MM ATF to ATF Mining Electrics. From this location, Ampcontrol operated its transformers business.
With the move of Ampcontrol’s transformer business to its main manufacturing site at Tomago NSW in 2003, ATF Mining Electrics increased its manufacturing capacity. The company continues to produce machine electrics, flameproof distribution control boxes, a range of small cast flameproof products in addition to overhauling a large range of flameproof items. Transformer manufacturing is also offered through parent company Ampcontrol, providing customers with total power solutions.
